Oops

Jeff Hartsell on the SCT in the Queen City:

Well, Curry will be in Charlotte all right -- with Golden State on Saturday, March 6, against the Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena, competing directly for fans and media attention with the SoCon quarterfinals on the same night at Bojangles Arena.

Wait, there's more -- the Lakers and Kobe Bryant will be in Charlotte on March 5, just in time for the SoCon's opening night.

At least in Chattanooga, the SoCon was only competing with Mr. Belding.

Just put it, and leave it, in Charleston.

Bye for now

I love Charleston, it’s one of my absolute favorite cities south of the Mason-Dixon, and for Davidson basketball over the last few years it’s been a good second home of sorts, but at this point I believe it’s about time to go see somewhere else.

Coverage from Charleston

AP:

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Jeremy Simmons and Donavan Monroe scored 16 points each to lead College of Charleston to a 67-55 victory over Davidson on Saturday.

Casaan Breeden added 11 points for the Cougars (3-3, 2-0 Southern Conference), who maintained their 11-point halftime lead by shooting 50 percent from the field (14-for-28) in the second half.

The College of Charleston jumped out to an 18-6 lead on Monroe’s dunk with 9:04 remaining in the first half. Simmons tipped in Breeden's miss for a 20-6 advantage with 8:37 left.

Early P&C: The 12-point margin was Charleston’s largest ever over the Wildcats and was the Cougars’ third straight win over Davidson. McKillop: “When you make shots, everything feels good. You defend better, you run better, you cut better, you screen better, you talk better. We missed shots today. And our misses, we let that linger on the court.” Davidson: The loss broke a 30-game Southern Conference regular-season road win streak ... Live 5.

A thought here

Either they’ll figure this out, and it’ll be interesting, or they won’t, and that’ll be interesting, too. Numbers.

Tweeting from the Lowcountry

Bryant: big time disappointed...too inconsistent on our part...mind’s on tomorrow’s game now...learn and move on.

With nobody watching

Tonight at Carolina First Arena.

Just some quick thoughts on tonight

Oof. Listened to this one down here in St. Pete. Tough to tell with no video feed so what do I know?

But ...

1. Defense creates offense. At least it does when a team has the personnel to do that. And Davidson has been that kind of team and was very much that kind of team over the last few years. That was because of the will of the sytem, but it also was because of Max, and Stephen, and Andrew. They’re gone now. Those extra possessions add up.

2. Will started strong. Bryant finished strong. It’s harder without Stephen and all the attention he drew. But everybody knew that coming in.

3. Honest assessment from McKillop on the radio after the game: “We cannot have any missing links. That’s got to be the standing motto for our team. No missing links.”

4. That’s two games of data. Tomorrow there’s a third. It’s Nov. 19.

5. We don’t have to fix it. We just have to watch.

March 2008 in Charleston

Championship game against Elon. More pictures over at The Davidson Project.

Tonight in Charleston

On the bottom of 5C in the paper that pays my bills:

Star guard Stephen Curry is now with the Golden State Warriors, so Davidson isn’t quite the force it has been.

Distraction for USF? Eh. Nobody cares. It’s still football season down here.

Observer says ... not much.

Last year in Charleston? At C of C. At The Citadel. Also (of course) March ’08. A text I got from Bro that night after the championship game win while sitting in the bar at the North Charleston Sheraton: “We are good. George Mason good. Gonzaga good. Stan Heath Kent State good.”

This just became Thomas’ Facebook profile picture. The General, by the way, is 24 today.
