McKillop: “I believe when you look at those four teams what you see are coaches who wear their school on their heart. They’re not mercenaries. They don’t trade in their Connecticut shirt for another BCS shirt four years later. When you talk about Connecticut basketball, Jim Calhoun is in that sentence; when you talk about Carolina basketball, Roy Williams is in that sentence; when you talk about Villanova basketball, it’s Jay Wright; and of course, when you talk about Michigan State, it’s Tom Izzo. That should be a clear sign to athletic directors and presidents how continuity and consistency and commitment are such a vital part of the hiring process. And when someone puts both feet in the door, and doesn’t always have an eye on that next job or that next step up the corporate ladder, that’s when the job gets done the best.”
